Building More Than Structures:

How an Engineering Team Helped Build the Kingdom
When most people think of missions, they often picture preaching or teaching. While sharing the Gospel remains at the heart of everything we do, God also uses practical skills and professional vocations to open doors, meet real needs, and demonstrate the love of Christ.

This year, Africa 1040 had the privilege of hosting our first engineering team from Oklahoma Baptist University in Senegal. These students didn't simply come to observe—they came to serve.

Working alongside our missionaries and Senegalese partners, the team experienced firsthand what it looks like to use their education as an act of worship. Engineering became more than a profession; it became a ministry. Every conversation and every relationship created opportunities to build trust, encourage local believers, and point people toward Christ.

The visit also represented an exciting milestone for Africa 1040. As God continues to expand our ministry, we are intentionally creating opportunities for university students to discover how their future careers can become powerful tools for the Kingdom. Whether someone studies engineering, veterinary medicine, education, business, healthcare, or another field, God can use those gifts to make an eternal impact.

Our prayer is that this partnership with Oklahoma Baptist University is only the beginning. We are actively developing additional opportunities for students to serve in Senegal through internships, semester-abroad experiences, and short-term mission teams that combine professional excellence with Gospel-centered ministry.

Jesus taught that His followers are to be the "salt of the earth" and the "light of the world" (Matthew 5:13–16). The OBU engineering team embodied that calling by serving with humility, excellence, and compassion.

We are incredibly thankful for each student and leader who invested their time, talents, and hearts in the people of Senegal. We look forward to seeing how God continues to use this partnership to raise up the next generation of Christian professionals who understand that their vocation is also their calling.
